Day #30: the floor

Hope's dead now.
(Note: It's therapeutic to murder an imaginary person by pushing
them down the stairs and then stand over their lifeless body as it
lays on the floor. You should ALL try it. I'll help shoot it if you want. -L)

Day #31 assignment: walk

kakasana. you should try this too. -H.B.

Day #29: hold something with both hands

"I felt like destroying something beautiful."
(Note: You can hold something with both hands and most of the
time we imagine ourselves the protectors of that which we hold.
Nobody likes to talk about how the protector can become the destroyer. -L)

when one feels pretty in a dress it warrants holding up the hem and maybe showing off a bit of gams. maybe. Day #30 assignment: the floor

Day #28: a bowl

sorry, there are no interesting facts about bowls in general on the internet but i want to say "thank you bowl, for making cereal and soup time awesome."  -H.B.

day 3 of flumageddon 2013
(Note: I've devolved to drinking juice out of the jug, falling asleep
while eating soup, and naming the honeybadgers in my lungs. -L)

Day #29 assignment: hold something with both hands

Day #27: sunday confessional

iamlorimar.com
So I have this season's flu.
The honeybadger and its babies are still living in my lungs, throat and sinuses.

Because I've been locked up with this zombie virus strain of dengue fever, I decided to completely overhaul my website and brand (however small it is at the moment). I had a blast doing it and of course, Helen Backwards came through like the guardian soul sister she is and suggested the new website name. I took it a step further and decided to just go with the entire "I am" concept.

Also... because I've been barricading the door of my life from the death flu taking it, I missed Sunday Confessional on Sunday. It's the first time and in 365 days, I don't think it'll be the last.
-L

occasionally, i use filter effects and i can't help it. it's like telling a painter she can't try different brushes, paint or canvas. the end. -H.B. Day #28 assignment: a bowl

co-worker: barf?
me: nooo... ssssscarrrrfffffff.
co-worker: oh! scarf! now that makes much more sense.
(true story)
-H.B.
day #27 assignment: sunday confessional

no scarf. no problem.
(Note: I'm sick. It feels like there is a honeybadger in my lungs...
and it had babies.... that are trying to escape through my sinuses.
I could have done more with the scarf assignment but... honeybadgers. -L)

Day #25: yellow

Radio Static.
(Note: I'm usually not a fan of the whole "black and white with one color" thing...
and when I shot this, I intended for it to be in color, however, when I saw it
on screen, I felt like this image NEEDED to be in black and white.
So I made the yellow as subtle as I could. -L)

Day #26 assignment: Scarf

this winter weather be buggin'. took me three hours to get home when normally it takes about 30 minutes. -H.B.

Day #24: rhymes with crack

morning sunlight, my shadow black,
runnin' out the door, heels go

me a sneeze attack, always grateful
for those that got my back -H.B.

A stack of shadows.
(Note: I got tired of photos of my face.  -L)

Day #21: today i realized...

how deliciously warm the sun light felt when i came to work during the power outage that i just had to plop down and take it in. when was the last time you seized the moment? -H.B.

Do what you want with it.
(Note: Today I realized I hadn't gotten my hair cut in over a year. I
drove until I saw a salon. I walked in and said, "Who wants to play?" -L)

Day #22 assignment: shop for a hat (yes. shit just got real)

Day #20: sunday confessional

Until it lifts.
There was a spell here when we had fog all day for three or four days straight.
I thought it was beautiful at first. I even used it in one of my images.
I thought it was beautiful until I wanted to see past it.
Once I'd sickened of the gray, I wanted it gone.
I had to say to myself, "Wait until it lifts... And it will lift."
-L

the first time i heard the term "light chaser" my understanding of it was minimal. then i met stage lighting and it made much more sense. the world is our stage. -H.B.

day #21 assignment: today i realized...

Day #19: just sit

sometimes I'll grab the front most table at a venue so I can just sit and take photos of the folks performing on stage. -H.B.

On the throne of a kingdom of ashes.
(Note: At the end of some days, a day like today, I just have to sit. When
I made the assignment yesterday, I had no idea it would be so fitting. -L)

Day #18: HAPPY LIFE ANNIVERSARY, HELEN BACKWARDS!

Written with light.
(Note: I'm in this photo... just... super blurry because I was dancing
around with the light writing this... (20-second shutter speed, a lazer
pointer, room to run around) FOR HELEN BACKWARDS'
LIFE ANNIVERSARY! -L)

~

And as a special treat. A story. I'll keep it short.
Helen backwards and I have never celebrated a birthday together... as adults. There was this one time in high school, I think. Well, I was in high school. Anyway. I'd say I would never forget the time when we partied hard like it was our birthday, but we were so obliterated that I certainly did forget that night.  This night happened back in 2005, so the details would be sketchy anyway.
THANK GOODNESS FOR PHOTOGRAPHS!

Here's what can I remember.
There was a drag queen saying that we were having "testicle difficulties."
I almost scored a date with a woman from the table next to us.
I think someone was supposed to be having a bachelorette party.
Helen Backwards almost passed out in a bowl of ramen noodles.
One of our friends kept grabbing her crotch while taking photos.
We piled as many items as we could onto Helen Backwards.
I was in charge of the barf bag and bucket until I started gagging.
Then someone else was in charge of the barf bag and bucket.
There was a giant stuffed worm and a Myspace hat involved.

Yes. Myspace.

Happy Life Anniversary, Helen Backwards!!

Day #19 assignment: just sit

i am celebrating so that means i get to post as many photos as i want to post. so here are two selfies... one being surrounded by loving people and another with the best carrot cake ever (and i don't normally prefer carrot cake.) Thank you L for the memory of good times and such a clever photo for this assignment. It means a lot that you took the time to create something for me. I appreciate you more than you know. I love you, my dear lady friend.- H.B.

Day #17: go outside

However hard the clouds did try,
they couldn't be loved as much as the sun.
(Note: I think the weather is really getting to me. I haven't seen the
sun in what feels like over a week. Everything is fucking depressing.
Thought I saw the sun this morning but it was a headlight. I about
shoved a pen into my eye. Anyone know a tribal sun dance?
Or maybe can fly me to Miami. Fuck. -L)

yup. I'm outside. -H.B. Day #18 assignment: happy life anniversary to helen backwards

Day #16: made out of wood

we ride tomorrow. she's new. not what i originally had in mind to shoot but i'm way too excited to try her out on the powder. she has an amptek auto turn rocker and a cool camber for edge control.
 her name is tesla. -H.B.

Does anyone have a pen?
(Note: What I actually like about this photo is that I find a new cool
loop or twist every time I look at it. This was kind of a lazy shot. Had
a long day and couldn't figure out what to do. Last minute, I shove five
pencils in my hair and this was actually the first try at grabbing the shot
with my phone. Sometimes, my photos won't be much more than this. -L)

Day #17 assignment: go outside

Day #15: empty

She drank until the bottle was empty and there
would be a real reason that nothing was clear.
(Note: I tried a few different things with this empty wine bottle. I ended
up with a few different options and then came across this outtake. -L)

she kept yelling at me and then i realized why. -H.B.

Day #14: starts with the letter "L"

Levitation.
(Note: I've been wanting to do a levitation image for the longest time.
The hair was maddening, but I think I got it. Now that I know how to
do this, I want to try it with models. -L)

Day #15 assignment: Empty

learning.

...to levitate. hehe. -H.B.

Day #13: sunday confessional

i discovered an android photo editing app that has a pretty decent healing tool. it makes my phone crash when i don't save after every section i edit yet i don't care because this app excites me. you have no idea. i am still amazed. -H.B.
Day #14 assignment: starts with the letter "L"

Season is coming.
This is a photo of the venue my team and I run for Spring and Fall Bike Week in Ocean City MD. This was Fall Bike Week last year. Work is light during the off season but starting this week and until at least mid-October, I will be back to working pretty much 24-7. More of my photos will consist of me on set during photo/video shoots, at bike shops, with my vendors, with riders, at biker bars at events... etc. I'm hoping I will still have time to do stylized photos for this 365. That's my main concern with Season coming.  I'm excited about the challenge of always having the 365 with me even when I'm on the road and not with the time and comfort of shooting my images when and where I like.  I guess we'll see how it goes! -L

Day #12: layers

Guess.
(Note: This was a fun one. I felt like doing some stylizing with
this one. That will happen from time to time. -L)

people and onions can relate. -H.B.

Day #11: jump

timing with the timer for catching the jump in the air was a challenge and i felt the impact in my knees landing in those shoes. "knees, i'm so sorry." the things we do to get the shot. -H.B.

She didn't regret jumping.
She regret forgetting to take the note out of her pocket before jumping.
In the water, the ink bled away. Now he would never know that it wasn't his fault.
(Note: This is one of the docks in Historic Annapolis MD. In warmer
weather, there's no way I could have done this because of crowds. With the
cold, rain and fog, it was my playground. Also, those are raindrops on the lens. -L)

Day #12 assignment: Layers

Day #10: go to a coffee joint

chai tea latte.
Day #11 assignment: jump

Unseasonably warm.
(Note: This was uncomfortable. There were people. I hadn't
anticipated the uncomfortableness with the people. -L)

Day #9: balance an item on your head

And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.
(Note: Let's address the elephant in the room. Tomorrow is day 10.
Phew. Now that we've got that out of the way.... So I started watching
"American Horror Story" today. That should pretty much explain everything.
The outtake for this is epic. -L)

Day #10 assignment: Go to a coffee joint.

i think it's funny how L and i ended up doing images that are antithesis of each other. hahaha... i swear we don't plan these things. -H.B.
